How many gallons is a 10 ft round pool?

A 10 ft round pool holds about 800 to 1,200 gallons. Intex rates its three 10 ft models at 813, 1,018, and 1,185 gallons.

Quick answer: 10 ft round pool gallons by wall height

Pools this size are sold with short walls, 24 or 30 inches in our model list. Plain geometry says a 10 ft circle filled to 90% of a 30 in wall holds 1,322 gallons. Real pools hold less than geometry predicts for their nominal size. Inflatable-ring pools hold the least, because their walls lean inward. The frame and inflatable columns apply our typical correction factors (0.93 and 0.87, medians from 26 manufacturer capacities).

Geometry = π/4 × 10² × water depth in feet × 7.48 gallons per cubic foot. Use your model's rated capacity when you know it.

Searching "10x30 pool gallons"? That is a 10 ft pool with a 30 in wall: 1,018 gallons for the inflatable Easy Set and 1,185 gallons for the Metal Frame. Both have the same nominal size, but they are 167 gallons apart: a 16% difference in every dose.

Manufacturer capacities for this size

The data block below lists the Intex models in our database with the capacity Intex publishes, the fill level it assumes, and how that capacity compares with plain geometry. Easy Set pools are rated at 80% of the wall, the Metal Frame at 90%. The wall-height table in the same block runs from 42 to 54 in, the heights used by larger pools. A 10 ft pool with those walls is unusual, so use the model rows and the table above instead.

Geometry = π/4 × diameter² × water depth × 7.48. Real pools hold less than the nominal size suggests. The factors are medians of 26 manufacturer capacities (our own calculation).

Always follow your product’s label directions. Pool and spa chlorine, bromine, shock and algaecides are EPA-registered pesticides: use products labeled for pool or spa use, and don’t swim or soak until levels are within the limit on your product’s label. If this page and a label disagree, the label wins.

The "Starting doses" row in the block is sized for a 48 in wall (about 1,967 gallons). For a 24 or 30 in pool, use the amounts in the next section.

Starting doses for this volume

At about 1,000 to 1,200 gallons, doses are small enough to measure with a kitchen measuring cup or a dosing syringe. 1 fl oz = 6 teaspoons. In the table, FC is free chlorine, TA is total alkalinity, and CYA is stabilizer (cyanuric acid).

+1 ppm FC, 6% household bleach2.1 fl oz2.4 fl oz
+10 ppm TA, baking soda2.3 oz2.7 oz
CYA 0 to 30 ppm, stabilizer4.1 oz4.7 oz

Bleach percent is by weight, as printed on the label; use plain, unscented bleach. Always follow the product label. It is a violation of federal law to use a pesticide product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

For the Easy Set 10 ft × 24 in (813 gallons), +1 ppm is 0.8 fl oz of 12.5% chlorine, about 5 teaspoons. More on a pool this small: the 1,000 gallon dose chart and above-ground pool care.

Calculator: your exact depth

The calculator opens at a 48 in wall. Set Wall height to 24 or 30, enter how full you keep the pool, and choose "Inflatable ring" for an Easy Set or "Metal frame" for a frame pool. If you know your model's rated capacity, trust that number over any estimate.

For the most accurate number, use your model's stated capacity or calibrate it: add a known amount of salt and measure how much the salt level rises.

Chemicals per week for this size (estimate from your own loss)

How much chlorine a small pool uses depends on sun, heat, swimmers, and stabilizer, so we don't guess a number for you. Measure it: test free chlorine in the evening and again 24 hours later. Multiply the daily drop by 7, then by the per-ppm amount above. Example for the Metal Frame 10 × 30: a drop of 2 ppm a day is 14 ppm a week, or 17 fl oz of 12.5% liquid chlorine. At 3 ppm a day it is 25 fl oz. A 1-gallon jug (128 fl oz) lasts about five to seven weeks at those rates. Liquid chlorine weakens in storage, especially in heat, so a fresh small jug is a better buy than a big one on sale.

Safety. Pour chlorine into the water, never water onto chlorine, and never mix chlorine with acid or with another chlorine product. Keep children out of the pool while dosing and until the chlorine has mixed and you have retested. Poison Control: 1-800-222-1222.

FAQ

How many gallons is a 10 ft round 30 in pool?

Intex rates the Easy Set 10 ft × 30 in at 1,018 gallons (80% fill) and the Metal Frame 10 ft × 30 in at 1,185 gallons (90% fill). Geometry at 90% fill gives 1,322 gallons, the upper limit.

How much chlorine for a 10 ft pool?

For each 1 ppm of free chlorine: about 1.0 to 1.2 fl oz of 12.5% liquid chlorine or 2.1 to 2.4 fl oz of 6% bleach, depending on the model. Multiply by the ppm between your test and your target. The chlorine calculator handles other products.

How long does it take to fill a 10 ft pool?

It depends on your hose. At 5 gallons per minute, 1,185 gallons takes about 4 hours; at 10 gallons per minute, about 2 hours. To find your flow, time how long a 5-gallon bucket takes to fill: 60 seconds means 5 gallons per minute.
